Comment: 11-06-2008 Our neighbor returned home at about 12:30 a.m. and saw a man approaching our front door and window area. When he saw our neighbor, he ran to a dark blue Dodge truck where a driver was waiting and they drove out of the neighborhood rather quickly. Our neighbor stayed up watching from his upstairs bathroom window most of the night for fear the man would return. We have since purchased flood lights and curtains to detour anyone approaching our house in the dark and we have faithfully set our alarm system. We are checking into the cost of hiring a police officer to patrol our homes while we sleep.

Comment: A home being built in Sundance Ridge was broken into and something was stolen yesterday. The police officer did not elablorate on what was taken. Appliances are a hot item and easily carried out when a house is being built. A bathroom sink was stolen from our house during construction. HOWEVER when our neighbors told us about the man approaching our home (above) they also said $3,000 in tools had been stolen from their truck, a radio from a car down the street and a house nearby. Be careful!

Comment: This is an EXCELLENT idea. Sharon, do you know who to reach for that video footage? There was an egg carton at the entry / corner of the Ridge at Sunset Lake, the video had to pick up something there at the entry. I saw four egg messes in the street and two driveways and that corner while delivering invitations for tonights meeting 11/20/08 at 7pm at the Club House.

Comment: Just to let everyone know, tonight we had a visitor at our residence down at the back end of the Ridge at 9PM who said he was going door to door as a GE licensed water recharge representative. This was very out of place b/c it was 9PM and not the middle of the day or anything. He was approximately 6 feet tall, had a shaved head, and was in his early to mid twenties just fyi. I found this very suspicious and just wanted to let everyone know because he might be going around scoping the block for any Christmas things to steal. This would be very convenient for him b/c we are down here in the most secluded section of the neighborhood. I called the Bexar County Sheriff's non emergency line and a sherrif was said to be dispatched to scope out the area.

Comment:IT IS URGENT THAT WE ALL KEEP OUR EYES OPEN AND OUR HOMES LOCKED.
Tonight (Monday, December 29th, 2008) between 10:45 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. a four door sedan with bright blue gleaming lights entered Sundance Ridge and immediately turned off its lights before parking at the corner of Sunset Lake and Sundance Scape. There were at least three people in the car. After a while they turned their lights on and turned around, then turned their lights off again immediately. For the next 45 minutes, they drove up and down the streets with their lights on, then off again, before stopping at different points on each street. It appeared as if they were casing specific houses, it is feared, possibly to return at a later time. They were also seen tossing a bag out of their car.
The female police officer that responded to the call never left her car, and when she was told which direction the suspicious car was seen last, she drove off in the opposite direction and never stopped to pick up the bag they had tossed out of the car!!! We will be filing a complaint with the Sheriff's office tomorrow.
It is URGENT that each and every home owner take action to protect your homes by keeping them well lit and locked! Every exterior light you own, should be on after sunset. We also need to keep our eyes open and be ready to jot down a description and/or license plate on a moments notice.
We desperately need to establish a cellular on patrol group. We will try and set up training for January. Volunteers for this patrol, please email safety@sundancefamily.com with your contact information.
If you see ANYTHING suspicious, call 911.
The written covenants of our neighborhood state no cars are to be parked on the streets between midnight and 6 a.m. Even though this occurred at 10:30 p.m., if we all agree as a neighborhood to follow a strict no parking on the street rule, regardless of the time of day, an out of place vehicle would be easy to spot. Just a thought.
Please be careful. Be safe.

Comment: Be on the look out for a few cowardly kids on the prowl in Sundance Ridge who are tagging mailboxes now with black permanent markers. They have tagged the block mailbox at the bottom of the hill on Sundance Scape. Accordingly, this is one of the darkest places in the development at night and this type of environment is conducive for these types of criminal acts. My home surveillance system may have caught these kids on camera, but I will have to check it out on the archive to see. If I caught them on my surveillance, I will definitely figure out who it is an turn it in to the police ASAP! Regards, Travis Christian

Comment: Last night about 7:15 p.m. two cars entered Sundance Ridge, parked next to each other at the beginning of Sunset Lake playing very loud music, then took off speed racing Southbound on Sunset Lake, turned left abruptly onto Sundance Scape and continued to Pearl Field. Comment: Please note yesterday afternoon's robbery information above. If you observe ANYTHING suspicious, please remember to call 911 and ask that a Sheriff come out to investigate. We are all counting on each other to protect our neighborhood.
In addition to the tragedy below: Did anyone have a gentleman come to their door on Tuesday wearing blue jeans, a blue button down long-sleeve shirt rolled up to the elbows, his hair was light brown in color, short, but spiked in the front. He asked my children if their parents were voting for him, yet didn't wait for me to come to the door. Since there are no public elections going on at this time, the visit was extremely out of character. He also did not offer any business card nor flier regarding his election or organization. He was carrying nothing.
It is our fear that he was trying to determine which homeowners are home during the day, possibly to return to do harm at a later time. If he meets the same description as the person who drives the maroon car as noted below, those fears would be confirmed.
Please post any suspicious activities on the "safety" link of our neighborhood website at www.sundancefamily.com in addition to reporting to the proper authorities.
Your input is critical.

Comment: Please make the call to 335-6000 if you see this vehicle at any time! Dark red/maroon Ford pickup truck TX plate# 8DZ-W83
While walking my dog this evening at 11:30, Roy and I noticed a Red Ford pickup pull across the street and turn off the lights. The driver ducked down and was using a small flashlight for a few minutes. When Roy and I walked over to the truck, the flashlight was turned off. We stood and waited to see if the driver would get out, but he never did. As Roy and I started walking back to the house, the driver sat up again but did not get out.
We eventually went back to the house so I could look up the number for the police station. Just before calling the police, I took out my camera to get a picture of the truck, but the driver started the truck and drove off in great haste. I have contacted the police and reported the incident. The officers will be patrolling our neighborhoods to check for this vehicle. Regards, Sharon Marr

Comment: I have not seen anything out of the norm by me. (I'm towards the back of sundance trails). No solicitors, no one looking for anyone. It seems like these people might be working together and knocking on your specific doors to get a peek at what's inside. Have you bought any new expensive toys and told people about it??
Below is a consolidated list of suspicious activities homeowners emailed me about this week. Although we don't want to alarm anyone unnecessarily, everyone needs to be informed so that a watchful eye can be kept by us all in light of this week's robbery.
Carrie: Also a youngman selling magazines in the afternoon was odd to me as well. This was yesterday. He asked do you know your neighbors i said YES someone is always home they may have parked in the garage.he doesnt answer his door for anyone!
Vickie: About a month ago, a man knocked on my door at about 8pm. I didn't open the door, I just said "yes". He said he was looking for Robert Adams. Though my last name is Adams. There is no one by the name of Robert here. I told him there was no Robert at this address and he began asking me if I knew Robert, then went on to ask if I knew where he could find Robert. He seemed irritated that I wouldn't open the door and then he asked if what the house number was and I smartassedly told him if he had the nerve to get out of his car and knock on my door, he should know what the house number is. He began asking again if I knew Robert. I told him to get off my propert and he continued to aske about Robert. I told him I was going to call the police if he didn't leave. He said "I'll be back" and he got in his car and left. I couldn't tell what kind of car it was but it was a midsized dark car. He was about 5'8 or 9, hispanic, kind of chunky. He had on a black short sleeved polo style shirt with the words "chase" over the pocket and jeans. As of today, he ha not come back. This was in Sundance Ridge. VICKY
Candace: Rosemarie.....we did have the young man you described come to our door. He was collecting votes for some class to earn points to go on some trip. He was selling magazines to earn points. He did have an ID card that we viewed. He seemed legit, just annoying at best. I'm pretty sure he was your run-of-the-mill solicitor. We didn't notice a car, though.
Hope this helps...we'll be on the lookout for any suspicious activity!
[Please note that Candace also reported that someone has stopped in front of their home TWICE now to take a picture. It is uncertain if they are taking a picture of their home, cars or family. Regardless, it is an invasion of privacy. Has anyone else witnessed this happening? Safety Volunteers]
Sharon: I will certainly be looking for a maroon car & will make calls any time I see anything suspicious. I'm very sad that this has happened, and very sorry for the neighbor who has lost the valuables.
Alice: The young man came to my house too. I was on the phone and said I couldn't deal with him at the time. He said he would come back. He didn't.
Please talk with your neighbors and if they are not receiving our email updates, please have them contact me by phone or email webmaster@sundancefamily.com
Be safe.

Comment: Tuesday morning, the gym, bathrooms and amenity center were all vandalized. The door, that was just repaired, has once again been damaged and will be closed until the repairs can be made. The reason the gym door is locked when these things happen is because there is a lot of heavy hardware involved with the card reader lock and these things are very dangerous when not stabilized. On the plus side, we already have our contractors working to get this done. The gym must remain closed until then.

One of the teenagers (young adult male) playing, got in his truck and rode across the grass and basketball court of the community center. Comment: Hello all, My family and i are building in sundance ridge and was reading the comments here. I am disturbed by the comments on vandalism and crime, suspicious people. However, this happane everywhere. Here is what we did in my old HOA. We started carrying digital cameras with us and whenever we saw a suspicious vehicle/person we simply snapped a picture of the vehicle and lic plate. Sent it to the HOA/police and a lot if crimes were solved. Just an idea before we move in and make new friends.

Comment: Just wanted to pass on that this past weekend, my neighbors house and cars were paint balled (green and red) in the afternoon on the Sundance Trails side. Once he noticed, he drove around the community and found two other homes down the street that were also paint balled. He stoppped and knocked on their doors to let them know. He or the other families did not see who did it. Just wanted to pass this on in case anyone notices this kind of thing. Thanks! Dawn

Comment: On Wednesday June 24 between midnight and 1230 there was a white Ford Focus hanging out near the pool and driving around the Sunset Trails subdivision. There was one male teen and one female in the car and they were smoking marijuana. The license plate of the car was V6Q VVY (or very close, it was dark). The problem of teens smoking marijuana near the pool area or parked along the street seems to be happening more frequently over the past couple of months.

Comment: I was walking tonight on the trails that divide the community and noticed a "fresh" fire pit that was recently extinguished where the trails meet behind the cul-de-sac on Pearl Field closer to the Ridge. I also noticed several empty mouthwash bottles laid out around where the fire pit was located. There was a multitude of ashy, burnt logs spewn abut the area in an approximate 3-4 foot radius just to give you an idea of the extent of the fire pit size.

Comment: I was jogging on the trails yesterday evening ... and as I rounded the bend I came upon 3 young males, 12-16 years old, smoking marijuana. They did not stop when they heard and saw me running. Several weeks ago I had a similar incident... again during the evening, we came upon a young male, same age as above, standing near his bicycle. As we approached we smelled a very strong odor of marijuana and the individual fled as soon as we approached. This is unacceptable for our subdivisions!

They kicked his door open and although his alarm went off they managed to take a large TV. Comment: Last week a neighbors puppy went missing. When they went out to ask the contractors working on their street if they had seen her puppy they all said "no". Her husband noticed from the 2nd story window that one of the contractors had a puppy in the front seat of his truck. They again went out to confront the contractor who denied having it. It wasn't before the homeowners "pressured" the contractor did he open his truck and give them their puppy back.

REMINDER, July 11, 2009: Parents, please take responsibility for your child(ren)'s safety. Yesterday, one of the Safety Patrol Members encountered three young children, who's parent had sent them to play at the playground by themselves. In addition to this, they were attempting to have someone let them into the pool area (remember we don't have a lifeguard). Please let this reminder serve as notice that ALL children under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult at ALL amenity areas of the Association, not just the pool.
Additional Safety Information: We have been advised by the Sherriff's Department that if a member of the community is unable to assist a young child(ren) safely back to their home (like these children didn't know their street name, nor address), it is recommended that the Sheriff be called and allow them to determine who the child(ren) are and where they live. If further investigation of neglect or endangerment are evident, the Sheriff can then contact the proper authorities for assistance. Enforcement of these safety guidelines are to protect the families of our community.
Please be responsible parents by TAKING your children to the park/pool and spending family time together.
With all of the construction going on in the community there are an untold number of "strangers" who do not live in Sundance near the park and sales areas at any given moment, daily! Please keep your children SAFE by watching them closely.
In addition, three or more young boy have been seen riding their bikes, skateboards, or just running through the neighborhood late at night. On several occassions they have been sighted playing in and around the homes under construction, which can be very dangerous. Again, please keep your children SAFE by watching them closely for their protection.

Safety Alert, August 10th, 2009!
On Sunday a fresh fire pit was found on the walking trail between the Trials & Ridge. It was still warm when found and after it was extinguished, it was reported to the Safety Committee and ProComm. The Safety Committee Chairperson contacted the Fire Marshal and an Fire Arson Investigator was sent out to take pictures and collect evidence. The Investigator plans to take the items recovered at and near the fire back to his lab and run finger prints. The person(s) that committed this act of Arson should understand that this property is owned by the HOA, that there are dwellings within 100 feet of where this fire was started, and that there is a burn ban in BexarCounty presently. This is absolutely uncalled for. If identified, charges will be filed. If the prints belong to a juvenille, they will be kept on file and when their prints are entered into the system when they get their drivers license, etc., they will be tied to this event.
PARENTS:
Please look around your house and see if you recognize any of the following items missing from your home. The Investigator collected the following items to process back at his lab: 1) a box of Black & Mild cigars, 2) a lighter, 3) several empty mouthwash bottles, 4) hand sanitizer, 5) a book or magazine containing information about ducks.
There was a multitude of ashy, burnt twigs and small logs spewn about the area in an approximate 3-4 foot radius just to give you an idea of the extent of the fire pit size.
It is suspected that the bottles of mouthwash represent either kids drinking mouthwash to get intoxicated while they lit a fire for laughs OR whomever lit the fire was trying to fan the fire with extra alcohol from the sanitizer which is flammable and would fuel the fire further. Either way, an unlawful fire was lit on the trails and this is Arson!
According to Texas code, Arson is defined as follows:
§ 28.02. ARSON. (a) A person commits an offense if the person starts a fire, regardless of whether the fire continues after ignition, or causes an explosion with intent to destroy or damage: (1) any vegetation, fence, or structure on open-space land; or (2) any building, habitation, or vehicle: (A) knowing that it is within the limits of an incorporated city or town; (B) knowing that it is insured against damage or destruction; (C) knowing that it is subject to a mortgage or other security interest; (D) knowing that it is located on property belonging to another; (E) knowing that it has located within it property belonging to another; or (F) when the person is reckless about whether the burning or explosion will endanger the life of some individual or the safety of the property of another.
"Whoever is the party that started this fire should go ahead and confess and/or NEVER start a fire on the trails again. People care about their property in this development. Whether or not a prosecution ensues from this, please think about your actions before you potentially burn down honest, hardworking people's property. The conditions are prime currently for a fire to get out of hand if you haven't seen the news lately!" (Homeowner)

Comment: Upon coming home last night around 8 I ran over a beer bottle smashed in front of my house. When I got out of my car there were 4 broken bottles. My husband went to get the mail approximately 30 minutes earlier and did not see the bottles. While we were cleaning up the mess we saw two teenagers in a suv and asked them if they had seen any thing but they stated they had not seen anything. I know this is not a crime but it is annoying to come home and find such disrespect for the neighborhood.

Driving Safety Alert:
My friends and I were just out front popping some fire crackers with our kids when a blue Toyota Tacoma came barreling past our house. My friends husband yelled at him to slow down because, when the fire crackers ended, the kids ran out towards them because they were excited. We were in the process of calling them back. They were just overly excited and ran towards them. The guy was going WAY TOO FAST and could have hit one of them. When my friend’s husband told him to slow down, he responded by cussing at us, calling us mother f—kers and telling us to keep our f-ing kids out of the road. While he has a point about the kids being in the road and we were trying to get them back to the sidewalk as quickly as possible, if he had been following the speeds posted at the front entrance, this would have NEVER been an issue. Let it be known, that I have his make and model and I will be taking down makes and models as well as license plate numbers, when possible, and I will be reporting this incident as well as any future incidents to the Bexar County Sherriff’s department. This is just so ridiculous and it really angers me.
I think it’s outrageous that neighbors would respond that way to another neighbors request when they are simply asking that the POSTED REGULATIONS be followed. It’s for THEIR SAFETY as well as ours. How would any of us feel if we killed a kid because we were in such a big hurry? Maybe people should consider that instead of getting angry and cursing.
Does anyone know a boy in the neighborhood named Martin?
He was seen with a missing bike yesterday (01/18/10) evening.
He was with his three friends named Eric, Edwin & Daniel. They
may also be the ones seen smoking marijuana in the forest yesterday evening between 6 - 7 p.m.
Martin has a tattoo of a skull on his right arm. He is known as
having worked at Sea World.
There are three witnesses that have seen him / them with the bike
yesterday.
If you know where any of these four boys live, please let us know
so the police can retrieve the bike and investigate for drug possession.
More Crime:
A car was broken into and a backpack and several CDs were stolen. Items from the car were also scattered down the street on 01/17/10.
Another homeowner has reported an attempted break in of their vehicle
as damage was done to the lock. 01/18/10.
Please be safe and know where your children are at all times, who they are spending time with what they are doing with their friends.
The Officer I spoke to suggested that as soon as any illegal activity is suspected to call the 335-6000 number and request an immediate "Patrol By". If the Officer locates the boys he can search them on the spot and take them into custody.
